Every year, on the national observance known as Doctors' Day (March 30th), Genesis Health System takes the opportunity to honor and celebrate our affiliated physicians.
Honor a Doctor
Thinking of new ways to create a healthier community isn't restricted to the experts! Programs that are working in other communities across the nation -- or across the globe -- might be the answer to some of our region's complex health issues. Genesis Philanthropy seeks the advice of medical experts, donors, non-profit organizations, community leaders and others to identify solutions and put philanthropy to work for health and wellness.
Funding an Initiative
The success of any Genesis Philanthropy initiative requires three things: 1) a great idea, 2) charitable funds, and 3) partners in action. Seeing measurable results in the fight against heart disease, cancer, obesity, mental illness and other chronic conditions is possible.
For example, the Gene and JoAnn Waddell Fund for Regional Hospice and Cancer Care was used to fund free lung cancer screenings in our region.
Genesis Philanthropy develops, manages and grants monies from a series of regional charitable funds supporting population health initiatives throughout Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. Once a named fund is established, additional contributions are welcome. Staff at any of the Affiliate Foundations can assist with the creation of a fund, as well as contributions to existing funds.
Implementing an Initiative
Genesis Philanthropy Affiliate Foundations and their Partner organizations are charged with carrying out the initiatives. Once goals and objectives for the initiative are established, each community addresses the health challenge in its own way. Best practices will be shared, taken to scale, and offered to other areas throughout our region and nation.
